Mr. Gandhi is great. I have seen him for years and stopped during covid, now his office wouldn't give appointment referral and lab work. Where as his office used to do the lab work.

After getting the lab work and referral from the primary care his office said not taking new patient.

I have been seeing Dr. Gandhi for a few years now and I have always had an outstanding experience with the doctor and the nurses. The frontdesk staff is another story. If I understand correctly, they share the frontdesk staff with other providers at that location and are not the most responsive. I have strictly based my rating on the fact that Dr Gandhi and Sarah Kelly are amazing and extremely knowledgeable. The nurses/assistants have always helped with any insurance pre-authorizations on a timely manner. Overall, I am extremely thankful I found Dr. Gandhi years ago.

Front desk staff is very rude and is not willing to accept new patients. They had me get a referral letter in specific format, and had me call my doctor who referred more than once. Even then she did not accept the letter and rejected saying that she wants diagnosis code as well on the letter. At this point I had decided to not let it go, and had asked her to find appointment I will get her updated letter. On this, she told me that they don't have any appointment in this year and appointment will be in next year. I was frustrated and told them that i am fine to get an appointment next year, just give me one. On this response, she said, let me check if system allows but told me to get the letter first. At this point I decided that, i don't want to see this doctor as for all the follow up appointments i will have to again go through this lady.

UPDATED REVIEW

I'm changing my rating now to a 1 star at this point because it has now been months and I have tried (and my doctor has tried) everything to get me an appointment with Dr. Ghandi. His staff is incredibly rude, they will not let you see him, and they don't mind calling you a liar (his receptionist rudely told me that Hypoparathyroidism wasn't rare and anyone can treat it). I'm blown away by how rude his staff is and I officially give up at trying to get effective treatment at this office.

------PREVIOUS REVIEW

I made my rating neutral because I haven't seen Dr. Gandhi, so this is really directed at the process of getting an appointment. I reached out to Dr. Gandhi's office because he is the only doctor within driving distance that specializes in a rare disorder I have called Hypoparathyroidism. I waited on hold forever to make an appointment only for them to tell me I needed a referral. No big deal but once I went to my primary & got the doctor's referral, I never received a call to schedule an appointment, so I called & waited on hold again. They had received the referral, but
told me that the referring doctor would have to do certain labs and bone density test & fax them over in order to make an appointment.

I have private insurance, I have a diagnosis. It's very disappointing that you have to jump through hoops just to get an appointment when you're already dealing with chronic health issues.

We met Dr Gandhi for thyroid and diabetic issues. He was so friendly and he did spent lot of time with us asking health history, food habits. Even his office Front desk staff and nurse are so friendly. I can say Ashburn location office team is the best staff , ever i met for my Dr appointments.

Office policies are ridiculous. I called to make an appointment for a second opinion. They wouldn't make the appointment without my previous doctors notes. It's a second opinion....I want a fresh unbiased look at the test results and a fresh opinion on my current symptoms. I told them I have no issues providing any labs or imaging results and they still wouldn't make the appointment unless the previous office sends their notes. How about you look at the results and make your own interpretation on a diagnosis.

I've been seeing Dr. Gandhi since he took over Dr. McMurry's practice, and could not have had a better person to pick up my care. He has been extremely thorough in making sure the diagnoses of other doctors were correct and making adjustments around my various health problems. His care for my T1 Diabetes has been amazing, better than any other endo I've seen.

He has also been extremely respectful of the fact that I am trans, which is still (even in this area) a subject many doctors could use sensitivity training on. He was willing to try out SC T injections rather than IM, in spite of it still being relatively uncommon at the time, taking my greater experience with the trans community and healthcare into account when I wanted to try it. He impressed me with his willingness to admit when he was unsure of a question related to trans care I asked rather than beating around the bush or equivocating. Then, at my following appointment, he had in fact done research and we were able to discuss options. I have never had a doctor so willing to go the extra mile in every aspect of care, he sets a standard other doctors should strive to emulate.

The other staff are also wonderful, from the nurse who made me extra copies of my medical history when I mentioned in passing that my printer was broken, to the receptionist who not only greets me by name anytime I come to an appointment or call in, but who took a personal interest when I was having trouble with my insulin script. Everyone is so nice here --this office feels very friendly, and I genuinely look forward to my appointments.

There is sometimes a bit of a struggle with phone tag trying to speak to a nurse, however it has significantly improved over the last year or two. The last few times I have needed to call in have been no more of a hassle than any other doctors' office.

I've been seeing Dr. Gandhi since he joined the Inova practice a few years ago. Even after moving to WV years ago, I'm still willing to travel to Ashburn to see him because he's such a thorough and knowledgeable doctor! He stays up to date on the current research, too. I highly recommend him if you need an endocrinologist!
